Today is Saturday, January 30th, 2021 and as the work week for most has come to end for the week, the trade talk between Detroit and San Fransisco have become "hot and heavy," according to Lions new head football coach Dan Campbell, wow, why did he choose those words for this. Anyway, this has the potential to be a massive deal for the 49er's if they can sign Matthew Stafford, he is only 32 years old now and he obviously has a chip on his shoulder after being in Detroit for his entire career and having so many loosing seasons, and it is not his fault. Stafford is yet another victim of the Lions front office curse, they provide zero for Stafford to flourish and don't seem overly concerned about winning football games and making Super Bowl, check that, playoff appearances. Stafford has continued throughout his entire career to post numbers and show his leadership skills week in and week out, he seems to be a guy that his teammates love and would go into battle with any given Sunday, that is huge and that will be needed in San Fran he Stafford can get the ink on the paper. The 49er's where destroyed in the 2020 season by injuries, corona, and poor play from the quarterback position, however they will be returning most of their starting line-up on offense for the 2021, and if this deal goes through they will be adding an elite quarterback, something that hasn't been in San Fransisco since the day of Montana and Young. Yes I am leaving out Kaepernick because of a simple fact, he was not a good quarterback, he had one good season, just like Lamar, and once the NFL Defensive coordinators got the film on him he was exposed for his lack of quarterback knowledge. That will not be the case for Stafford, he has the arm talent easily, he can stand in the pocket and make all the throws, and he is still young enough and athletic enough to escape the pocket and get the first down if needed. Stafford, if healthy, could be exactly what the 49er's need to get over the hump and not just return to the Super Bowl, but to win it this time, and if Stafford can gel with the offense and get the offense down quickly then you better watch out, cause the 9er's will be the guys to beat in 2021. I truly do hope that Matthew Stafford gets to sign somewhere where he will have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs and make a run for the Super Bowl, after watching the slip of Stafford separating his shoulder and then coming back into the game and throwing the game winning touchdown with his should out of socket, gotta pull for a guy like that.
